Can you have a “polymathic group?” By that, I mean having varied backgrounds that lead to a greater expanse of ideas. Too often it’s either groupthink or, as you’ve stated, a leader proposes an idea and that’s what everyone else bases their thought process on. Allowing everyone in the crowd to ‘play’ from their own viewpoints allows for more creative and innovative ideas!

A polymathic group would be more like a think-tank perhaps. I think if we really want to get applied systems execution we need a group that is probably 25% polymathic, 75% experts, and a facilitator who can bridge the two and manage expectations.

The group might not even be forced into the same room. You could have polymaths ideating and experts testing and implimenting. I think I'd recommend making sure you have that diversity of view and skills and have intentionally created 'the crowd' and aligned them in a clear dirction.

"The issue here is that the average of a lot of ideas is an average idea." I love this line!
