I'll remind you of one other design-related mantra: Make things "sailor-proof"

Probably along the same lines as make it Marine proof? Or Soldier proof?

Most leaders and team members struggle to stay afloat, let alone have foresight. In my experience, people who work a lot more than others and are just better at their jobs also have the bandwidth to think ahead.

To tease apart your last comment, there's an interesting twist that I've found those that are just better at their jobs don't just work more, they set aside the bandwidtch to think ahead so they don't have to work more. The 'more' they do actually allows them to do less than those that don't think ahead.

The good old “Work smarter, not harder.” I was also thinking about that. Sounds like there are two kinds of people who work smarter: some don’t work more, some do. I had in mind examples of the latter category.
